China orders alert against epidemic meningitis from Central Africa, Chad
font size

China's State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has ordered strict quarantine checks on passengers from the African nations of Central Africa and Chad to prevent epidemic meningitis from entering the country.

According to a source with the World Health Organization (WTO) Tuesday, by April 4, the Health Ministry of Central Africa had reported 43 epidemic meningitis patients in the country, seven of whom had already died, and the Health Ministry of Chad had spotted19 patients, four of whom had died.

The Chinese administration circular urges quarantine departments to rigidly check the body temperatures of people from the two African countries, and take immediate preventive measures if any suspected patient was found.

The circular also requires people from the two countries with typical symptoms of the disease, such as fever, headache, nausea and vomiting, to report to the Chinese quarantine departments.
