FM spokeswoman refutes US reportChinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Thursday refuted a recent US report that she said was "full of cold war mentality" and advocated the theory of so-called "China threat". Zhang made the remark when asked to comment on the recent annual report presented to the US Congress by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission at a regular press conference in Beijing. She said China had noted the report and also the related comments made by the US White House and State Department spokesmen. The report was full of cold war mentality and put China and Sino-US relations in a hostile perspective, Zhang said, warning that the report would seriously mislead the general public. Zhang acknowledged that the report was intended to intervene in China's internal affairs on issues of economy and trade, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and its purpose is to advocate the theory of so-called "China threat", and interfere in and undermine Sino-US exchanges and cooperation in various fields. China is sternly opposed to the report, Zhang said, urging the US government to take a clear-cut stance against the report and its so-called advice so as to maintain the Sino-US relations and bilateral cooperation. In its annual report to the US Congress Tuesday, the US-China Economic Security Review Commission concluded that US policies towards China on the economy and security were inefficient and lopsided and needed to be thoroughly revamped. The report also called on the US government to take actions using economic and technological means to pressurize China. |
