Deng Xiaoping: Regards to Overseas Friends
|
On July 1, 1985 the first issue of People's Daily Overseas Edition carried the inscription "Regards to Overseas Friends" by comrade
Deng Xiaoping on the top section of the front page. Nineteen years passed and People's Daily Overseas Edition, inspired by the inscription, gives full play to its role as a bridge and tie in connecting China and outside world and has made active contribution to the understanding of China by the world and China's going out to the world.
On the occasion of commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Deng Xiaoping the whole staff, filled with veneration, republished the photos of comrade Deng Xiaoping and his inscription.
At its beginning the Overseas Edition of People's Daily was edited in Beijing, printed respectively in Tokyo, New York, San Francisco, Paris, Hong Kong and Beijing and distributed to various localities both domestic and overseas. After twenty year's efforts the Overseas Edition has gradually grown strong and is now distributed to more than 80 countries and regions. It has become an authoritative comprehensive Chinese daily that China issues to the outside world and has received the attention and care from domestic and overseas readers. Overseas readers' feedback say the Overseas Edition accurately conveys the voice of China, brings rich information about their hometowns and some say the Overseas Edition is the "letter home from the motherland".
