The film "Deng Xiaoping in 1928" premiered in Beijing Thursday, marking the 100th birth anniversary of the late Chinese leader.
Unlike previous Chinese movies that simply glorify China's political figures, "this movie is revealed by thrilling plots, to tell people what a dangerous circumstances that Deng had lived in," said Li Xiepu, director of the movie.
"In terms of revitalizing domestic movie industry, I hope this film is interesting enough to attract people, and to bring satisfactory box office revenue," he added.
A Hong Kong rising star Yu Wenle makes a cameo in the film as an assistant of Deng Xiaoping.
"I has seriously learned about the late paramount leader's life only since I was told to act the film," he said, "So I believe most young people will know more about him from the movie."
Deng Xiaoping's two daughters also attended the premiere.
As the father of China's modernization drive, Deng Xiaoping had launched reform and opening up policy since 1978. His economic policies helped millions of Chinese out of poverty and lead China into the fast-paced development it is experiencing today.
