Waxwork of Deng Xiaoping on display in Tianjin
font size

A vivid wax figure of Deng Xiaoping has gone on display at a memorial hall in the north China municipality of Tianjin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the late Chinese leader's birthday, which is to fall on Aug. 22.

Deng in wax sits in a cane chair, clad in a grayish blue Chinese-style jacket and with an amiable smile on his face. Visitors will be able to take photos with the chief designer of China's reform and opening up in the late 1970s.

The waxwork was done by Ai Desheng, a teacher with the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, based on Deng's image in the 1980s. It will be on display for one month at the Memorial Hall of late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai and his wife Deng Yingchao in Tianjin, as part of the city's commemoration activities.
