Chinese President Hu Jintao praised Deng Xiaoping as an outstanding leader whose high prestigewas recognized by the Party, the military and the people of all ethnic groups throughout China.

At a grand gathering to commemorate the birth centenary of Denghere Sunday, Hu called Deng a great Marxist, a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, military strategist and diplomat, and a long-tested Communist fighter, the chief architect of China's socialist reform, opening-up and modernization drive, and founder of Deng Xiaoping Theory.
