China-Jordan ties to be developed, Chinese Defense Minister

China and Jordan should work together to expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation, said Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan in Beijing on Spetember 6.

Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and state councilor, made the remarks at a meeting with Khalid Sarayreh, chairman of Joint Chief of Staff of Jordanian Armed Forces.

He said that the friendly relations and cooperation between China and Jordan have developed in a sustained way since the two countries forged diplomatic ties more than 20 years ago. The two nations have conducted effective cooperation in the fields of politics, economy and culture.

Cao expressed his appreciation for Jordan's adherence to the one-China policy.

He said that the relationship between the two armies has also grown in recent years, noting that the mutual visits by high ranking officials have helped promote the friendship and mutual understanding between the two armies.

With the concerted efforts and constant development of the relations between the two countries, exchanges and cooperation between the two armies will be surely expanded, Cao said.

Sarayreh thanked China and its army for offering assistance to the Jordanian people, hoping to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Sarayreh reiterated that the Jordanian government would stick to the one-China policy.

Chief of PLA General Staff holds talks with Jordanian counterpart

Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks here Monday with Khalid Sarayreh, chairman of Joint Chief of Staff of Jordanian Armed Forces.

Liang said the Chinese and Jordanian peoples have had traditional friendship. Since the two countries forged diplomatic ties more than 20 years ago, bilateral relations have progressed smoothly.

With frequent exchange of visits by leaders of the two countries in recent years, bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and culture has developed rapidly and the friendship between the two peoples has deepened continuously.

Liang said that the Chinese government appreciates Jordan's adherence to the one-China policy and China is willing to strengthen the friendly relations with Jordan to push forward bilateral cooperation.

Sarayreh expressed his appreciation for China's support for the Arabian people and spoke positively about the current development of bilateral relations. He said that he admired very much the achievements the Chinese army has made in various fields.

The two armies of Jordan and China should further strengthen cooperation and exchanges, he said.

Sarayreh reiterated the Jordanian government's consistent stand on sticking to the one-China policy.
