Syria has sought the best relations with the United States and hoped to increase mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries, a senior Syrian official said on Saturday.
"Such ties are in the interests of the two peoples and will be conducive to achieving security and stability in the region and the world at large," Minister of Immigrant Affairs Buthaina Shaaban was quoted by the official SANA news agency as telling a US delegation.
He said that Syria had suffered from terrorism in the past, therefore, Syria supports anti-terror campaign, while underlining the necessity of deepening Islamic-Christian dialogue.
The minister also reasserted Syria's commitment to seeking a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East in line with relevant international resolutions.
For its part, the delegation, representing the Anglican Presbyterian Church in the United States, appreciated Syria for its efforts to seek harmony among religions and achieve peace and stability in the region, SANA said.
