Yao Ming acts in public service announcement about AIDS
font size

NBA Houston Rockets' Chinese center Yao Ming showed up in a TV public service announcement released Saturday in Hong Kong of China to urge people not to fear or discriminate against those with AIDS.

Lakers legend Magic Johnson, diagnosed with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, has co-stared with Yao in the 30-second clip.

The video opens with Johnson scoring for the Lakers with a behind-the-back layup and then the two basketball stars later play a game of one-on-one as both men push against each other and exchange high fives.

Johnson says "I have been living with HIV since 1991."

Yao teaches Johnson how to use chopsticks as they share a meal of take-out Chinese food on the basketball court, and says in Mandarin that "Hugging, shaking hands or eating together will not transmit HIV. Don't be afraid. Don't discriminate. Please show you care for people living with HIV/AIDS and learn more about HIV/AIDS prevention."
