China banned 20 Chinese from running for the title of "Model Worker" due to the authenticity of their achievements.
Yin Weimin, deputy director of the office of sponsoring the award, said in Beijing Friday that it is a precondition that the "most outstanding people" be selected.
"Those who are bestowed the title must be those who have made the most eminent achievements in their respective fields and areas," he said at a press conference here.
Those who are "unqualified" or have "unresolved problems" have to be deprived of the title.
China earlier nominated 2,977 people as candidates for the model worker award. The committee initially approved more than 1,400 people from the manufacturing sector, 600 farmers and 800 from social management and public service sectors.
The nationwide selection of the advanced model workers, conducted by the State Council, the Chinese central government, over half a century and more since 1950, has been held once every five years since 1989. It selects exemplary figures from the country's 750 million workers to boost morale for socialist construction.
