Yao was 13-for-14 from the field and McGrady, making the winning basket withless than three seconds remaining, added 10 assists and eight rebounds.
The series moves to Houston for Game Three on Thursday with the Rockets on a nine-game winning streak, including the last seven of the regular season.
Houston trailed 102-95 with 5:36 to play before McGrady and Yao teamed up to rally the Rockets into a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The Mavericks called a timeout after McGrady's final basket, but a last second shot from Michael Finley failed, sealing the Mavs fate.
Jon Barry added 16 points off the bench for Houston, while Bob Sura had 14 points.
Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points to lead the Mavericks, who were out-scored 29-23 in the final quarter.
