State-owned, foreign and private enterprises compete in Chinese logistics market
font size

With the modern logistics industry's vigorous growth, the state-owned, foreign and private logistics enterprises are expanding market by their own advantages in China.

The China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO) and China Shipping Group are pillars of Chinese logistics industry. Possessing more than 600 modern merchant vessels, the COSCO is the leading logistics corporation in China in term of size. The China Shipping Group owns five specialized fleets, i.e. fleets for container transportation, shipping, oil transportation, cargo transportation and special transportation. It handles 270 million tons of shipment a year.

American industrial logistic giant ProLogis has invested US$ 200m in China and the investment will grow to at least US$1.29 bln by 2009. Costal cities like Tianjin, Qingdao and big cities in central and western China like Chongqing and Chengdu are the key destination for investment.

At the same time the private enterprises, known for their flexible mechanism has their own strategy to gain a strong foothold amid the increasingly fierce competition. Rising logistics enterprises with diversified stock structure like Yuancheng, Baogong and Beijing Hurrytop Logistics are growing rapidly.

At present such a situation has been initially formed, in which the state-owned, foreign and private enterprises are like three legs of a tripod, competing with each other.
