Kim Woo-choong, founder of the bankrupt South Korean Daewoo Group who has been on the run for nearly six years, is likely to return home early Tuesday.
Local media Monday reported Kim will arrive at Incheon International Airport aboard Asiana Airline flight from Hanoi. But the South Korean second largest airline operator refused to comment on such reports.
The former business conglomerator started his escaping life in October 1999, three months after the Daewoo Group, which once was South Korean influential conglomerate, was unveiled undergoing total financial failure with debts estimated at 80 trillion won ( 80 billion US dollars).
South Korean Supreme Public Prosecutors Office alleges that Kim authorized window dressing of the accounting of the group of about 41 trillion won (41 billion dollars) between 1997 and 1999.
He obtained illegal bank loans of 10 trillion won (10 billion dollars) and was also involved in donating 25 trillion won (25 billion dollars) slush fund to politicians.
In April, Seoul Supreme Court levied record fines of 23 trillion won (23 billion dollars) against seven former Daewoo executives, and ruled that Kim had been an accomplice in their crimes.
Local media also quoted sources of the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office as saying the office plans to arrest Kim at the airport.
The 69-year-old Kim was reportedly suffering from some illness.
