Shenzhen, HK to jointly forge world-class shipping center

Shenzhen Dachanwan Port Investment and Development Corp. Ltd. and HK Modern Terminals signed an agreement on July 19 to form a joint venture, which will undertake the first-phase of the Shenzhen Dachanwan container terminal project. According to sources once completed the terminal could accommodate the newest generation container ships and effectively alleviate the situation of inadequate throughput in Shenzhen ports.

In line with the investment plan approved by the National Development and Reform Commission the first-phase project of the Dachanwan port has a designed throughput of 2.5 million TEU, total investment of 7.073 billion yuan. Two of the berths are scheduled to put to operation by the end of 2007 and all five by the end of 2008. Construction of the terminal will unfold by the yearend.
