Spain strongly condemns bombing attacks in Amman

Spain's government on Thursday strongly denounced the bombing attacks that rocked three hotels in the Jordanian capital Amman on Wednesday.

In a statement published on Thursday, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero described the attacks as "an act of barbarism," saying Spain "condemned in the strongest term all manifestations of terrorism."

He also stressed Spain's "support" for Jordan's people and authorities "in these difficult times."

At least 57 people were killed and more than 100 others were wounded in Wednesday's bomb attacks that struck three hotels of the Grand Hyatt, the Radisson SAS and the Days Inn in downtown Amman.

An al-Qaida terror group active in Iraq claimed responsibility for the three suicide bombings in Amman in a statement published through the Internet on Thursday, though the authenticity of the statement has not been verified.
