font size

The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality averaged 10,240 yuan (1,280 U.S. dollars) and 2,785 yuan (348 U.S. dollars) respectively in 2005, the local statistical bureau said.

The figures were up by 11.1 percent and 10.9 percent respectively compared with the previous year, it said.

The bank deposits by urban and rural residents stood at 254.6 billion yuan (31.8 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of 2005, up 16.3 percent year-on-year.

In an effort to lift more people out of poverty, the city helped 800,000 laid-off workers reemployed between 2000 and 2005, the bureau said in a recent report on the city's social and economic development.

The city's registered urban unemployment rate at the end of 2005 stood at 4.12 percent.
