Average income of urban Beijingers in January tops 2,000 yuan

The average income of per Shanghai urban dweller in January this year reached 2222.73 yuan, ranking the first place in China. Beijing remains the second one with its urban residents' per capita income averaged 2005.93 yuan, the first time ever to exceed 2000 yuan, according to a survey by National Bureau of Statistics.

The survey was conducted in 31 provinces with some 56,091 households involved. For each household in the survey, there are three persons and one or two of them are employed. .

The survey shows the average per capita income in China in January this year stood at 1121.44 yuan, while in January 2005, the figure was only 963.75 yuan, a rise of 58 yuan over last year.

Beijing and Shanghai are the only two in the country with residents' monthly income exceeding 2000 yuan. In addition, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Fujian are also on the top five among high-income regions with average per capita income reaching 1920.15 yuan, 1592.87 yuan and 1351.86 yuan respectively.

Compared with 1584.71 yuan of the same period of last year, Beijing dwellers earn 400 yuan more, Shanghai also registered the same increase.
