Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met in Beijing Tuesday with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Praising Obasanjo as a famous and respectable African statesman, Wang said the former president had played an important role in maintaining Africa's unity and realizing African integration, and had contributed a lot to the friendly relationship between the CPC and the People's Democratic Party of Nigeria, as well as the China-Nigeria and the China-Africa friendship.
"The Chinese people will not forget their old friend," Wang said.
Obasanjo said the Chinese people, going through ups and downs, finally conquered difficulties and scored great achievements.
China is Nigeria's best friend and partner, he said.
The two sides also had in-depth and candid discussions on issues of common concern.
