India has asserted that it would work for enhancing ties with neighboring countries, including Pakistan, to ensure that the country's fundamental foreign policy objective is met and a peaceful neighborhood is maintained, according to a New Delhi media on Tuesday.

"A peaceful extended neighborhood and a supportive international environment was the fundamental foreign policy objective of India which is committed to ensuring all-round inclusive growth," Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna told a gathering of foreign diplomatic corps in the national capital Monday evening.

Stating that India is committed to working with every country for shared peace, prosperity and security, Krishna said, "India will engage more closely with the global community and partners to deal with international terrorism which threatens us all."

"We will also work with our neighbors to ensure that outstanding issues are addressed and the full potential of our region is realized. We also believe that a prosperous and economically vibrant India is an asset and opportunity for our region," he said.
