India may soon dispose of the bodies of the nine terrorists who were killed in the Mumbai terror attacks last November after Pakistan has failed to claim the bodies lying in a morgue in the country's financial capital, a senior Indian Home Ministry official said Sunday.
"The Indian government may soon give the green signal to the government of the western Indian state of Maharashtra to dispose of the bodies. But, whether the bodies would be buried according to religious rituals or cremated is yet to be decided. This is because Pakistan didn't claim the bodies, though it has been established that the ten terrorists, who carried out the Mumbai massacre, were from Pakistan, including Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only militant caught alive," the official said, on condition of anonymity.
He said that the bodies could also be given to medical students for experiments.
"But, the final decision on how to dispose of the bodies would be taken soon by the Indian government in consultation with the Maharashtra government which has written to the Home Ministry to take a call as the bodies may start decomposing," the official said.
The 10 terrorists carried out the Mumbai terror attacks on November 26 last year, in which over 170 people, including foreign nationals, were killed and hundreds injured.
Kasab, now in custody of the Indian authorities, is currently undergoing a trial and has been charged with 302 crimes, including waging a war against the state.
