Tropical storm Rick has been upgraded to a hurricane off Mexico's Pacific coast, the U.S. National Hurricane Center, or NHC, said Friday.
The Miami-based NHC said in an advisory posted on its website that the hurricane's center was now about 470 km south of Acapulco, Mexico, and its maximum sustained speed was about 125 km per hour.
Rick was the 7th hurricane of the eastern Pacific hurricane season and would likely grow into a major hurricane next week, it said.
However, it will remain far from land, moving west-northwest, parallel to the Mexican coast for several days, according to the NHC.
