New center for Ottoman archives set up in Istanbul

Istanbul will set up a new center for Ottoman archives, according to an official of Turkey's state archives on Tuesday.
Ottoman archives, currently placed in four different locations, will be collected together at the "Ottoman Archive Center" in Kagithane district of Istanbul.
The new center will have around 100 million documents and 370,000 note-books.
The center will include an administrative building, a research hall for 350 scholars, a research institute, a library, a museum, a special unit for digital archives, social facilities and congress hall for 2,500 people.
Archive storage areas will be specially designed against floods, earthquakes, chemical and biological attacks.
The new center will be opened to the public in 2012.
