Wang Chuanfu tops Richest People in China List

The annual "Hurun the Richest People in China List" was released in Beijing on October 13 .Wang Chuanfu, Zhang Yin & family and Xu Rongmao & family came out as the top three richest.

The list showed that the top 12 richest in China are: Wang Chuanfu (35 billion yuan), Zhang Yin & family (33 billion), Xu Rongmao & family (32 billion), Yang Huiyan (31 billion), Wang Wei &Li Ping couple (30 billion), Liu Yongxing (30 billion), Lo Chi-keung (30 billion), Zhu Mengyi (30 billion), Wang Jianlin (29 billion), Liu Zhongtian (28 billion), Yang Yanbin (28 billion), and Zhang Jindong ( 28 billion).

It is reported in the 2009 Hurun Richest People in China List, that a total of seven entrepreneurs appeared in the top 10 for the first time. 65 entrepreneurs' wealth surpassed 10 billion yuan despite the international financial crisis, and 1000 entrepreneurs in the list own more than a 1 billion yuan fortune.

The average age of entrepreneurs in this year's list is 50. Most of them are male, start from scratch, are born in Zhejiang, started real estate businesses sixteen years ago when they were only 34 years old. They are 15 years younger than people with the same considerable position in the U.S. or Europe, and their wealth increases faster. 94 people in the list are under the age of 40. The youngest self-made billionaires include 36-year-old Chen Tianqiao and Fang Wei, 38-year-old Ma Huateng, Ding Lei and Ding Shizhong.

A total of 102 females enter the list, lead by Zhang Yin, Yang Huiyan, and Chen Lihua, accounting for 10.2% of the total wealth. The number of Chinese women accounts for more than half of the top ten world's richest self-made female billionaires.

Among the 1000 rich people in the list, most prefer living in Shanghai and Beijing, 90 and 87 in the two cities respectively. 65 people in the list live in Shenzhen, Hangzhou ranked fourth with 60, Guangzhou 38, Wenzhou 25, Chengdu 23, Hong Kong 22, Nanjing 21, and Dongguan 20.

Wang Chuanfu with the wealth of 35 billion yuan becomes the richest man in China in 2009. His wealth, with an increase of 290 billion yuan over last year, enables his ranking to rise from last year's 103 up to this year's No. 1. BYD Co., Ltd. is Hong Kong's largest listed auto stock, and 43-year-old Wang Chuanfu owns 27.83% of its shares. In 2008, Warren Buffett announced plans to subscribe 10% stake in BYD with 1.8 billion Hong Kong dollars. BYD is the leader of a new generation of "green cars", complying with the global trend of "technology", "green", "innovation" and "new energy".
